Tree Disks
HempFlax tree disks are round hemp felt disks to protect plants, shrubs and trees. They
are made from 100% natural hemp fibre. The processing of the raw fibre is completely
mechanical, without the use of chemicals. The strong fibres are carded and hardened; the
result is a high quality felt that is punched into round shapes.
Hemp fibre naturally has strong absorption and heat insulating properties. Its use in
the planting of young trees, shrubs and plants fights the growth of weeds and has a
heat- insulating effect when it is cold. When it is hot, the moisturising effect of the fibre
benefits the vegetation.
Unfortunately, the government still uses the plastic variety, as often seen in recently planted
young trees along public roads. This is an environmentally unfriendly choice because it
will take at least ten years for the plastic to decompose. Unlike conventional plastic
materials, HempFlax tree disks are porous and not environmentally damaging.
They decompose completely, which
benefits the plant through the slow
release of organic substances. Furthermore,
their natural colour makes them
unobtrusive. The disks can also be used to
protect sensitive tub and potted plants
against frost.
